Friday the 13th is a day everyone considers to be an unlucky day or is often married to the idea of something scary, something not good. Well, let me share with you guys how that day went for me.
I woke up in the morning, got ready for work, spent most of the day doing work, then after I got off I went to the Campus General Assembly that night.
That’s a pretty typical Friday night right? You’re right! People were calm, roads were smooth, work felt great, parents were happy, and the night was blessed!
While writing this reflection, it got me thinking, I actually haven’t attended a Campus event for quite some time now, mainly because I’d always be working or I’d be in a different place for my service. I serve as Program Head for the Kids for Christ program but before saying yes to that, Campus was where it all started. It became my rock, my foundation, and my family. For four years this is where I grew both mentally and spiritually in my prayer life. It’s where I have learned to build a better relationship with the Lord.
So I guess you could call it a trip down memory lane.
And to go back to the subject of a “freaky Friday”, I found it pretty fitting that the topic they chose for the night was the “History behind the Sign of the Cross”. Crazy! When you make the Sign of the Cross, you are professing your belief in the Father, in the Son, and in the Holy Spirit. It meant the confession of Faith, a mark of discipleship, and the acceptance of suffering. It reminded me of the importance of the gesture, that it wasn’t just something we do at church, not just something we do before meals, and not just something we do whenever we pray.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” (Hebrews 6:19)
During the group sharing, reflecting on what the gesture meant to me, it meant that it was a seal I wore each and every day, something that I declare, something I testify, something I am proud of. But most of all, it was my anchor! It was something that reminded me of why I chose to serve and stay in this community of CFC-Youth, that, despite the strong winds, the uneven pavements, and the waves of the seas, it made me firm and steadfast!
Still sound freaky? Rather I’d say it was fruitful! I firmly believe that I am blessed each and every day of my life, because I know that whenever I wake up, God is there.
P.S. Seeing both my siblings present, especially my brother, was enough for me to be reminded that I am lucky and blessed.
For the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory are yours, now and Forever.”
